SimCom is a Simple Computer that really works. Pupils can see what really goes on behind the scenes in a real computer. The picture shows a program running and printing the prime numbers.

Mind-strengthening Tool
After installing Sugar on my Ubuntu notebook, I went looking for tools for my 10-year-old grand-niece. When I came across SimCom, I immediately downloaded it because it reminded me of my own introduction to computers. (My first computer class, as a sophomore in high school -- in 1978 -- used a computer with 100 memory locations and a basic instruction set.)
SimCom is a tool which can help learners to strengthen their skills with logic reasoning and algorithmic design. The feature which I find the most advantageous is the graphical help page.
The ability to easily save one's work and then recall it in later sessions is extremely useful. Working through the exercises which the author has detailed on his website (http://mulawa.net/olpc/simcom/index.html) is very stimulating.
As a bonus, the author presents a program for SimCom which generates the prime numbers. This exercise, in and by itself, is an enjoyable activity for learners who are interested in numbers.
