More about this activity

Mancala is often played in remote villages - the dishes are simply holes in the sand and the pieces are stones.

Click on one of the lower 6 dishes to "pick up" the pieces and then drop them one at a time as you move around the board. The large dish at right is your target, the one at left is mine. If your last piece lands in your target, you get another go. If your last piece lands in an EMPTY lower dish, you get all of my pieces from the opposite dish. The dishes change colour to underline when these events happen.

There are always 48 pieces so the first to reach 25 wins.

You can use the number keys 1 to 6 instead of clicking if you prefer.

In tablet mode you can use the X button to "click" a dish.

Developer Comments

Mancala is a two-person game so the player gets to play against me. That's not as one-sided as you may think because my program deliberately doesn't use any look-ahead.
