More about this activity

Usually called "Dots & Boxes", this activity revisits the game from our childhood but here the students get to play against me. But don't be deceived ... there is more to this game than meets the eye. There is a clever sacrificial strategy (which the program doesn't use) that allows a player to win with careful play.

Developer Comments

This is the first of my activities to be "sugar coated" - this means that it DOESN'T falsely offer "sharing" but it DOES offer "starting from scratch" i.e. the wins & losses can be reset.

Reviews

Charming. Another example of a finished activity that needs artwork.

Release Notes

Version 22 — May 13, 2011 — 228 KB

I felt that Boxes did not lend itself to a tablet mode implementation.

So the only overt changes in this version are the addition of the version number facility (press v) and an assurance that this activity will now work properly without alteration in a non-Sugar environment.
