Distance is an activity that uses sound to measure the distance between two computers. If you have two laptops with speakers and microphones, Distance can turn them into an acoustic tape measure.

Distance uses the speed of sound propagation to determine the distance between two laptop computers. It was designed for the XO-1, but should work on other laptops as well. It works through the collaboration system, so to measure a distance, first you have to share it with a friend.
Distance's accuracy and range depend on the laptop hardware and atmosphere calibration. Under ideal conditions, using an XO-1, distances up to 30 meters can be measured, with error of 1 cm.
